GearIQ private beta · last updated 18 October 2026 · DRAFT pending legal review

The short version

GearIQ only asks for the measurements needed to size this gear. We don't need your child's full name — a nickname is enough. You can delete saved information at any time. We never sell your child's information.

What we ask for

Only the measurements needed to size the gear you selected. For a helmet, that is one head-circumference measurement, in inches or centimetres.

We do not ask for your child's legal name, date of birth, address, school, team, or photograph. A nickname is enough, and in this beta we do not ask for even that. There is no account to create and no password to remember.

If you ask to be notified about a sport

Some sports are marked “Coming soon”. If you choose to be notified, we store your email address and the sport you picked — nothing else. We do not store your child's details, your location, your IP address, or anything about your device with it.

What it is for. One thing only: a single email telling you that sizing for that sport has opened. Signing up is optional and separate from getting a sizing result. It is not consent to marketing: we will not add you to a newsletter or any other mailing list, and we will not email you about anything else.

Who can see it. Your address cannot be read back through this website. Within GearIQ, access is limited to the founder, for sending that one email. It is stored with our database provider (Supabase) and passes through our hosting provider (Vercel), who handle it as our service providers. When we send the launch email we will use an email-sending service, which we will name on this page before we use it. We do not sell your address or share it with anyone else.

How long we keep it. Until sizing for that sport opens. We then send you that one email and delete your address within 30 days of the launch. If you ask us to delete it before then, we delete it straight away.

Stopping automated sign-ups. To stop the form being flooded by automated sign-ups, we count sign-up attempts from the same network over an hour. We do not store your network (IP) address to do this: we store a scrambled code made from it, which cannot be turned back into the address, and those codes are deleted automatically once they are an hour old. If a lot of attempts come from one network, your browser may be asked to complete a short automatic check (about a second of work, with nothing for you to do) before the sign-up goes through. Like any website, our hosting provider's systems see your IP address when your browser connects; we do not copy it into our own records.

What we keep, and why

When you ask for a size, we record what the recommendation was based on: the measurement you entered, the unit you entered it in, the converted value, which manufacturer size chart was used, which version of our sizing rule produced the answer, and how confident the result was.

We keep that for one reason: so that if a recommendation turns out to be wrong, we can go back and see exactly how it was produced, and fix the rule rather than guess. Sizing protective equipment is a safety matter, and a recommendation we cannot reconstruct is one we cannot stand behind.

Each of those records carries a session identifier that is generated fresh each time you open the sizing flow. It is not linked to you, it does not follow you between visits, and it is not a profile.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your information, or your child's. Not now, not later.
  • We do not require marketing consent in order to give you a sizing result.
  • We do not make your child's information public. There is nothing public to make.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics in this beta.
  • We do not share your measurements with manufacturers, retailers, or anyone else.

Cookies, browser storage and other companies

GearIQ does not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies, and nothing on this site follows you to other websites. There are no third-party trackers: every page, image and typeface is served from GearIQ's own address, so no font service, advertising network or analytics company is contacted when you open a page.

Session storage. The site keeps one short note, in session storage, saying you have already seen the opening animation, so it does not play again. It holds no identifier and nothing about you or your child, and your browser deletes it when you close the tab.

If you choose '13+' with the 'Shopping for' toggle, your choice is saved only on your device, in your browser's local storage, so the site remembers it on your next visit. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, and you can change it at any time — switching back to '12 & under' removes it.

One cookie, for invited testers. In this private beta, opening your invitation link sets a single cookie that lets you back in without using the link again. It holds a scrambled code, not your name or anything about you, it is not used to track you, and it expires after 60 days. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it.

Your language, if you choose one. If you pick a language in the menu at the top of the page, a cookie remembers that choice (for example “fr-CA”) so the next page opens in the same language. It holds only the language, is not used to track you, and expires after a year. If you never pick a language, it is not set.

Deleting your information

Reply to the invitation email you received and ask. We will delete the recommendation records associated with your testing, and any “notify me” email address you gave us, straight away, and confirm when it is done. You do not need to give a reason.

If you saved anything in the app, it is stored in your own browser and is removed by clearing site data for this site.

This is a private beta

Access is by invitation only. These pages are not listed publicly and are not indexed by search engines. Please do not forward your invitation link — not because anything here is secret, but because we are deliberately keeping the group small enough to talk to everyone in it.

Sizing is guidance, not a guarantee

GearIQ gives you a recommendation based on the manufacturer's own published size chart. It is not a guaranteed fit, and it is not a safety certification. Always confirm the final fit in person before you buy, and follow the manufacturer's fit instructions. For helmets in particular, fit must be secure today — see the guidance shown with every helmet result.

Questions

Reply to your invitation email. During the beta you are talking to the founder directly, not a support queue.

This notice describes the GearIQ private beta as it actually works. If any statement here does not match what the product does, the statement is the error and we want to hear about it.
